The ability to shoot targets at 25 yards using sights sadly seems to provide little or no advantage in close combat.

The 1988 US Army training manual for pistols and revolvers, in apparent recognition of the disconnect between sighted shooting at the range and the ability to score hits in short distance combat, wisely calls for point shoot training at distances of less than fifteen feet. Almost unbelievably, some NYPD figures show 62% of shots fired at a distance of less than six feet were complete misses.

The mean score for NYPD police officers (1990-2000) for all shootings is fifteen hits per 100 shots fired, which is almost the identical hit ratio seen among Miami officers ~ who in the years 1990-2001 fired some 1300 rounds at suspects while recording fewer than 200 hits. The NYPD statistics showed no correlation between an officer’s range scores and his ability to hit a suspect at close range. In the remaining 20% of the cases, officers recollected using some form of visual aid to line up the target ~ which could be the sights themselves or just the barrel. If shot placement is so important, why no sights? An exhaustive NYPD report (NYPD SOP 9) revealed that in 70% of recorded police shootings (the majority under poor lighting conditions) officers did not use sights while 10% of the time officers didn’t remember whether sights were used. I think the NAA, KT, or Seecamp will all do a great job of sending a magazine full of 32's downrange if needed, so it's just 'pays your money, and takes your choice'. I have a NAA Guardian (32) and it's been excellent for over 8 years, just as my P32 has been excellent for the past 2+ years,(I don't blame the pistol for my inadvertent mag release problem). My ffl friend gets me Gold Dot's for $17 for a box of 20, and while that's pricy, I don't shoot with them much. I have found that Speer 'Gold Dots' work perfectly in my Seecamp, and that's my carry round of choice.įirearm Discussion and Resources from AR-15, AK-47, Handguns and more! Buy, Sell, and Trade your Firearms and Gear. Luckily Winchester has improved their Q4255 round (new stock rounds are 'stubby')and it makes for a perfect plink/target round and are available most places in boxes of 50 for around $17. Those Seecamps after 31,000 can actually shoot any round that is 'truncated, or HP's(and will fit in the magazine), but the longer standard ball rounds are still too long for the magazine. In fact that additional strength allowed Larry Seecamp to chamber the 380 in the identical size and dimensions of the 32. After serial number 31,000 Seecamp changed to a stronger stainless steel for both the 32 & 380's. The Seecamps are more 'ammo picky' than the P32, but not as limited as they were in the past. I don't find the Seecamp too heavy for cc, but it is definitely heavier than my P32. Even that shouldn't be a problem if the ammo of choice is one that is readily available.

Not a dig, but aren't the Seecamps even more ammunition picky than Kel-Tec pistols. They are very nicely made, although a bit heavy. Top quality, very small, perfect 24/7 carry piece. I've found the Seecamp to absolutely be all it has been said to be. I'd always lusted after a Seecamp anyway, and now I have one.

I filed down the mag release button, and that probably solved the problem, but in the back of my mind was always a concern for it happening again at the wrong moment. Release button kept getting pushed enough (by my butt) to release the mag 1/4 or so. My KelTec P32 has been an excellent little carry pistol, but when carried in my DeSantis Wallet holster the mag.
